God Awards Nuns Best View In Hafnarfjörður
'Thank God they didn't turn this into condos.'
These aren't Hollywood nuns. They don't fly like Sally Field. They don't help children escape the Nazis. And the nuns at the Carmelite convent in Hafnarfjörður don't offer refuge to Vegas lounge singers running from the mob. They do, however, rock an impressive gift shop. But I'm getting ahead of myself. First, let's get up to speed on the spiritual part:
In a predominantly Lutheran country, the Carmelite nuns throw some Catholicism into the mix. Which means saints, priests, and Popes. And lots of handmade candles and other items in their gift shop. And since they are cloistered nuns, they have walls separating them from the outside world. And if they have visitors, they see them in specially built rooms with decorative grillwork. Even nuns like to maintain an aura of mystery!
