John Lennon Memorial Moonlights As Bat Signal
Imagine Peace Tower on Viðey Island
At a press conference at Kollafjörður Bay, Prime Minister Jóhanna Sigurðardóttir announced that during its off-season, the Imagine Peace Tower would be used to summon costumed crime fighters from around the globe.
"From December 9th to October 8th, it just sits there in the dark. Such a waste. Why not use it to help combat supervillains? It's the green thing to do."
Engineers had been working with artists to create a symbol to beam out into the sky. But after a recent brainstorming session erupted into a fistfight, the government workers went to a local bar to eat whale kebabs and hash things out.

"In the end," said project manager Brynhildur Thorazinursdottir, "we just went with the bat signal. Everyone knows it. Fan boys love it. It's a no-brainer."
Sigurðardóttir was equally enthusiastic. "You'd think a big hot shot country like Denmark would have thought of this first. But once again, little old Iceland put on her thinking cap," she said with a twinkle in her eye. "And I don't see why other countries don't follow suit. I mean, one bat signal could replace an entire military. Sure, there'd be some upfront costs. But in the long run the savings would justify it."
