Milk Carton Lady Wows Reykjavík
The Reykjavík Museum of Photography has a great gift shop
with a bright orange wall where you can buy books and postcards.
And when your bag is full, you can go into another room and
see the Mourning exhibition by Elsa Björg Magnúsdóttir.

My favorite photo from Mourning is a shot of the photographer's
mother. Her hair is wet. Her eyes are large. She is the child on
a milk carton, all grown up, but still missing. Or maybe she
just makes me think of a Lady GaGa video.

Actually, the exhibit began last April, and ended in June. But the
haunting eyes of Elsa's mother linger. And Magnúsdóttir is ready
for her next challenge.

And perhaps, one day, Magnúsdóttir can take her place in a proud
line of prominent lady photographers: Diane Arbus, Eve Arnold,
Margaret Bourke-White, Imogen Cunningham, Dorothea Lange,
Annie Leibovitz, Cindy Sherman. The glory will be Iceland's.
